A long time ago, someone from my hometown told me that I would be a great teacher and that people would love to learn from me. My dad and my first boss also had a similar opinion. I heard these words many times when I was young, but I always thought, “No, I want to be an artist, not a teacher.” Little did I realise that from the age of six or seven, I had been teaching all along. I didn’t even realise until I was much older about my teaching fascination. Over the years, I have taught numerous subjects. Here in New Zealand, I have taught Indian cooking, ayurvedic cooking, baking, Bollywood dancing, ballroom dancing, breathing practices, yoga, acrylic painting, watercolour painting, pencil shading, fabric painting, how to use herbs and spices in everyday life, herbal facials and so on.
When I started teaching community art classes in 2004 in Auckland, I was teaching at Glenfield College, Titirangi Centre, One Tree Hill College, Edgewater and many more. That was a wonderful time of my life to meet art enthusiasts from all walks of life. In 2007 I opened my studio called ‘Raindrop Art Studio’ where I ran classes and workshops until 2014. Then from 2017 at ‘Anju’s Studio’, until now with a different identity ‘Creative soul‘
