Golden Bay is a place I’ve never visited—but it’s long lived in my imagination. From its name and the photos I have seen, I have always felt it must be absolutely breathtaking. I once called this painting Star in the Sky, but as the image grew and I found the courage to paint the iconic rock formation, it took the name Golden Bay.
Located at the top of the South Island, this golden strip looks like a shimmering diamond sparkled in the ocean when you fly south—so thin, yet so full of magic. It’s not the easiest place to reach, but until I make it there in person, this painting carries the dream for me.
