After arriving in New Zealand, I found myself feeling completely lost, disconnected from family and friends, and struggling to adapt to my new surroundings. One day, while unpacking, I discovered black paint and a brush in a box. Seeking solace, I sat in my backyard in Ōtorohanga and painted this piece, which I titled “My Backyard.” This painting represents my journey of finding a sense of belonging and peace in a new land.
