“Me” Original Watercolour Painting – A Journey of Imagination and Reflection

Artist:

Anju Desai

Description:

The first time I painted this, I was really young. My dad watched me paint on a small piece of watercolour paper and said, “Anju, I’ve never seen a tree like this.” I replied, “Dad, this is an artist’s imagination. I would love to see a tree like this, but I can’t, so I’m creating it.”

Years later, I painted this again on A3 watercolour paper. It sold at my first exhibition and was my very first sale! The buyer even commissioned another piece with a girl in a red frock instead of mustard for her twin sister. They had both been through a lot and felt this painting really resonated with them. She told me it felt like standing on top of a hill, peacefully watching the sunset, and patting herself on the back to make it through. Hearing that was such a wonderful feeling as an artist.

A close friend suggested naming this painting “Me,” and it felt like the perfect fit.
